First, I’d like to say that the packaging of this integrated amplifier was first rate. Double boxed and secured with high density foam insure everything arrived safe and sound. After unboxing and giving everything time to come up to room temperature, I connected the KINKI STUDIO EX-M1+ into my system and queued up some music via the Bluesound Node (3) and Amazon Music HD. Dominique Fils-Aimé, “Nameless” was the perfect jumping off point. It was sonic bliss to my ears and mind. The silent parts were, dead silent. This allowed the music to flow freely and with authority. Initially what struck me most about the sound was just how smooth and delicate the highs were without sounding at all harsh or sibilant. I could hear the air around the notes at times as Dominique’s voice filled the room, even at low volumes. I’ve never experienced that with my system and it kept giving me chills up my spine. As the instruments began to play I noticed that bass was tight, solid and well controlled which gave it a sense of weight. Absolutely no bloat. All this was without any burn-in. With over 200 hours of burn-in now, I’ve noticed the highs have become even smoother while remaining well defined and the midrange has thickened up nicely and come forward just a bit creating an even, cohesive soundscape.
As for controls, the volume dial is silky smooth and adjustment is even and easily adjustable with a turn of the dial. The remote works equally well to make adjustments. Speaking of the remote, it’s great. It feels nice in hand with its weight and the gold colored buttons are logically laid out. The back panel is magnetically secured, making battery installation a breeze. I know a lot of people purchase this in the silver finish, but I chose the black and it looks great. It is a brushed black anodized finish on both the remote and the amplifier and they look and feel luxurious.
I’ve watched and read several reviews of the Kinki Studio EX-M1 and I can honestly say that I agree with everything the reviewers on YouTube say about this integrated amp. Steve Huff described it best for me and for what I’ve found to be the case. I love this amp as it makes my system sing like never before.
Thank you Ken and Kinki Studio
